Job Description For: Venture Guide
Venture Upward empowers families to cultivate a love of learning through high-quality curriculum, mentorship, and community support. Our mission is to make home education accessible, clear, and engaging for every family we serve.
The Venture Guide serves as the primary point of contact for prospective and new Venture families. This role ensures families gain a clear understanding of the Venture Upward program and feel supported throughout the application and transition process. Venture Guides host informational events, provide guidance via phone, email, and social media, and help families successfully integrate into the Venture community.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
All Venture Guides must:
- Gain a firm understanding of the Venture Upward program
- Must be able to explain the program in detail to others.
- Help families obtain a clear and accurate understanding of the program.
- Identify potential home-educating families in your area.
- When available, hold engaging and organized informational meetings (virtual and in-person).
- Support families as they move through the application process.
- Serve as the primary contact for families from the time you first meet them, through the application process, while they are waiting to be assigned to a teacher, and during the transition period when they are establishing contact with their new teacher.
- Continue to periodically check-in with your Venture families throughout the school year.
Job Expectations:
- Respond to emails within 24 hours.
- Use Venture Upward email address for all communication with potential or current Venture families.
- Document family contact and communication on your Family Tracking Tool. Provide clarity regarding the communication on the family tracking tool, including dates of interactions and brief comments.
- When possible, attend Venture Upward events such as field trips and community service projects.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct, Social Media Policies and Procedures, and Professionalism Code of Conduct which includes the behavior and physical presentation of staff and volunteers. Respectful interactions and relationships are key contributors to a positive brand and reputation.
- Communicate any family needs and/or concerns to Weston Breuer, Sales and Recruiting Manager and Anne Bashaw-Meyer, Operations Coordinator.
- TORs and Venture School Coordinators who are also Venture Guides, can follow the chain of communication outlined by their primary supervisor; please also CC Weston Breuer and Anne Bashaw-Meyer if the concerns arise during the recruiting process.
- Complete all Venture Guide Onboard Training in a timely manner.
Position Details & Compensation:
Department: Family Engagement / Recruitment
Reports To: Venture Guide Director
Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099) Remote work with occasional in-person events or meetings
Hours: Flexible; hours vary based on events, family interactions, and recruitment needs
Compensation: Commission-based pay
Licenses/Degrees: High School Diploma preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Venture Upward program and be able to explain it clearly to families.
- Help prospective families understand program offerings, expectations, and benefits.
- Identify potential home-educating families within your area.
- Host organized and engaging informational meetings (both virtual and in-person) when available.
- Support families throughout the application process and serve as their main point of contact until they are assigned a teacher.
- Continue to check in periodically with Venture families throughout the school year.

- Attend Venture Upward events such as field trips and community service projects when possible.
- Adhere to all Venture Upward policies, including Code of Conduct, Social Media Policies, and Professionalism guidelines.
- Communicate family needs or concerns promptly to the Venture Guide Director, Partnership Development Manager, and Operations Coordinator, following the established chain of communication.
- Complete all Venture Guide Onboarding Training in a timely manner.
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable hosting events and interacting with families both virtually and in-person
- Proficient with email and tracking tools for documentation
Other Requirements:
- Must maintain professionalism and represent Venture Upward positively at all times
- Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule and multiple responsibilities.
- Professional and approachable demeanor for interacting with team members and families
- Flexibility to step in and support operational tasks as needed.
